As a college student, you probably want to fit a little fun in with your days spent toiling over textbooks. But like most college students, you probably have limited funds to use for entertainment. Not to worry-you can have lots of fun without spending a whole lot. Here are some suggestions for saving your money and still having a great time.
Hang out with poor friends. If your friends have cash to blow, chances are you’re going to go through yours pretty fast as well. You can’t have to banish money loving friends from your life, but you should be careful which activities you do with them. Going out to dinner or bars with them could prove to be much more expensive than you bargained for.
Do free stuff. You can find several if not hundreds of free activities in just about any city or town. Tours, concerts in the park, plays, and festivals are just a few of the events that you can take part in absolutely free. If you’re visiting free events, be sure to eat before you go, or bring food with you, and only take a little bit of cash to spend so you won’t be tempted.
Throw a party. Instead of going out, stay in and have the party come to you. Ask friends to bring drinks and snacks, and enjoy spending time with each other rather than spending money. Step things up a notch by bringing out your favorite video game console and playing party games like Rock Band or Wii.
College sports events. Be proud and support your school’s athletic program by going to games. Football, basketball, and soccer games are almost always fun to watch, and often, schools will offer student tickets for free or very cheap, so it’s a great way to spend a few hours.
Look for a discount. Many entertainment venues, particularly movie theaters, will offer a special price or discount just for students. Keep an eye out for discounts wherever you go to save money while you’re a student.
Entertainment can get expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Seek out free or discounted things you can do to have fun and save money while you’re in college.
